Internship Opportunities

COMMUNITY ARTS INTERNSHIP

The intern will work closely with Community Arts staff members to support the Community Arts Department programming in The ARTery, Connecting Communities residencies, the community gallery, and special projects. Specific areas of focus depend on departmental needs and the intern’s skills and interests.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate visitors’ experience in The ARTery
  • Assist with the organization and inventory of The ARTery studio and supplies
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of Connecting Communities programs
  • Assist with the organization and documentation of programs, creating documents or systems to catalogue participants, their work, or whole residencies
  • Assist and/or lead hands-on workshops for people of all backgrounds, varying from at-risk youth to people with memory loss
  • Coordinate the Art Center’s participation in 4th of July parade
  • Assist with training, leading, and scheduling of The ARTery volunteers
  • Frequently move supplies weighing up to 30 pounds
  • Occasionally work in outdoor weather conditions
  • Occasionally ascend/descend a ladder to assist artists and staff

Qualifications:

  • Ability to communicate effectively with many constituencies, including coworkers, department heads, Arts Center patrons, and artists-in-residence
  • Ability to organize large amounts of information
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong interest and experience in Studio Art
  • Familiarity with hands-on art-making processes and various material knowledge

Summer 2017 Internship Dates
June 5–August 25, 2017 (may be flexible)
40 hours a week, includes some nights and weekends
