FRIENDS OF ART INTERNSHIP

Friends of Art is the volunteer organization at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center. The basic function of Friends of Art is to support the programming and operations of the John Michael Kohler Arts Center through volunteer involvement and fund-raising and to promote a positive public awareness of Friends of Art and the Arts Center. Interns will work closely with the Volunteer Coordinator and other Arts Center staff to coordinate a comprehensive volunteer program.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with administrative tasks and daily operations of the Friends of Art program
  • Lead Summer Volunteer Program for Teens, including training, maintaining communication with, and organizing activities for up to 15 teen volunteers
  • Contribute to and assist with planning, recruiting, coordinating, and communicating with over 200 volunteers for the Arts Center’s Midsummer Festival of the Arts (July 15–16)
  • Assist with organizing volunteers for weekly concert series and staff volunteer registration each week
  • Participate in New Volunteer Orientation and Training
  • Coordinate gathering of content and images for monthly e-newsletter and social media use
  • Update and create volunteer position descriptions
  • Research volunteer policies and make recommendations for updates to volunteer handbook

Qualifications:

  • Currently obtaining or have completed a degree in nonprofit management, communications, psychology, sociology, or related field
  • Experience volunteering in any setting
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work with people of all ages and backgrounds

Summer 2017 Internship Dates
June 5–August 25, 2017 (may be flexible)
40 hours a week, includes some nights and weekends
