Internship Opportunities

RESOURCE CENTER INTERNSHIP

The Resource Center of the John Michael Kohler Arts Center houses an art library, various archival collections, and an extensive image and audiovisual collection. The Resource Center serves a variety of users including staff, researchers, and members of the public. Resource Center internships offer excellent opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students to gain experience in special librarianship, archives, and/or visual resources. Intern projects may be adapted to suit an intern’s interests and experiences; interns work closely with the Librarian/Archivist to achieve goals that are mutually beneficial to the intern and the Arts Center.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Assist with preservation and processing of library and archival collections
  • Digitize photographic prints, slides, and documents
  • Assist with management of image database
  • Catalog print materials and electronic resources
  • Occasionally move supplies weighing up to 30 pounds
  • Occasionally work in outdoor weather conditions
  • Occasionally ascend/descend a ladder to assist artists and staff

Qualifications:

  • Background or interest in library science, museum collections management, and/or archives
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, interpersonal)
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience or coursework related to the management of archives
  • Knowledge of controlled vocabularies and metadata standards
  • Basic computer proficiency with a working knowledge of Microsoft applications, Photoshop, scanning software and hardware, and database management is also necessary.

Summer 2017 Internship Dates
June 5–August 25, 2017 (may be flexible)
40 hours a week, includes some nights and weekends
