Marie Lorenz

New York-based artist Marie Lorenz has been exploring and documenting the urban waterfront for many years. In 2005, she started her Tide and Current Taxi, a rowboat built from salvaged materials, with which she takes participants around the New York harbor using only the tide to navigate.
Lorenz was born in Twentynine Palms, California, and grew up traveling with her military family. Her work has been shown nationally and internationally including at High Desert Test Sites in Joshua Tree, CA, to MoMA PS1 in New York City. She has completed solo projects at Ikon Gallery in Birmingham, England; Artpace in San Antonio, TX; and at Jack Hanley Gallery in New York.
