Albert Herwig
Albert “Al” Herwig is a native of Sheboygan, WI, and a proud World War II veteran. At age 95, Al has been carving wood for about 35 years, ever since he retired and was encouraged by a friend to try a whittling project. He belongs to carving clubs in Plymouth, Green Bay, and Milwaukee. While he has shown his work at club shows, this is the first time his work has been included in a museum exhibition.
Al delights in showing his work and in experimenting with just about any material. He is especially proud of his “Illusionist Heart” and would love to show you the photos inside of himself and his wife (now deceased) along with their two daughters. He enjoys spending time with his family, including many grandchildren.
Al’s favorite thing about carving is developing new friendships, and he says that you meet the nicest people in this hobby. He is inspired by what others are creating and believes it’s never too late to learn something new or to develop a skill. A constant tinkerer, he is always working up ideas for his next project.
