Christine Tarkowski is Professor of Fiber and Materials Studies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has received grants from Creative Capital Foundation, Illinois Arts Council, Jerome Foundation Franconia Sculpture Park Grant (MN), and Stone Belic Institute for the Study of Women and Gender in the Arts and Media. Tarkowski has been awarded public commissions from Mass MoCA, Public Art in the City of Chicago, and the Millenium Park Foundation. She has participated in residencies at the Tacoma Museum of Glass (WA), Oxbow (MI), and Cite´ Internationale des Arts in Paris, France.

Tarkowski has long been interested in the wreckage of various systems connected to Western culture, including religious structures, themes, and beliefs. During her Arts/Industry residencies in the Kohler Co. Foundry, Tarkowski created iron tablets and textured panels and incorporated them into her multi-media installations.
