Aaron Stephan
Arts/Industry: Foundry, 2008
Aaron Stephan lives and works in Portland, ME. He received his BFA from Purchase College and his MFA from Maine College of Art and Design. Stephan is a multi-media artist, working in sculpture, public installations, performance, as well as two-dimensions. He uses everyday objects as the jumping off point for his works that investigate the complex interconnected structures of life.
Stephan’s work has been exhibited at the Center for Maine Contemporary Art, the DeCordova Sculpture Park and Museum, California Center for the Arts, and the DUMBO Art Center. He has completed many public commissions including the Music City Center in Nashville (TN), Fire Station 45 in Clearwater (FL), and the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City.
During his Arts/Industry Foundry residency, Stephan created large and small-scale cast iron world globes. The smaller globes were connected through a series of rods and pipes to form a complex molecular structure.
