Linda Cordell
Arts/Industry: Pottery, 2003
A child of the revisionist era, Linda Cordell’s work reinterprets the figurine to enable animals to break the chains of cuteness and noble savagery. An appreciation of the ridiculous, a love of beauty and skilled craftsmanship, and the belief that domestic objects are social propaganda all contribute to Cordell’s work.
Her work has been exhibited at The Clay Studio (OR), Ann Street Gallery (NY), Leonard Pearlstein Gallery at Drexel University (PA), Marion Art Gallery (NY), Hunterdon Art Museum (NJ), Museum of Fine Art (TX), University of the Arts (PA), Mindy Solomon Gallery (FL), and Everson Museum of Art (NY), among others. Cordell’s work has been reviewed in Hi-Fructose, New Ceramics, Ceramics Monthly, Artes Magazine, American Craft, The New York Times, and Neue Keramik, among others. She has been in residence at University of the Arts (PA), University of North Carolina at Greensboro (NC), and the John Michael Kohler Arts Center’s Arts/Industry at Kohler Co. (WI), among others. Cordell received a BFA in studio art at New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University and an MFA in studio art at Louisiana State University.
