Robert Sedestrom

Robert Sedestrom was born in Detroit, Michigan, and lives and works in Chicago. He received a BS in design from the University of Michigan and a MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art. He has received grants and fellowships from National Endowment for the Arts, the Organization of American States, USAID, and the Research Foundation of the State of New York. He has held residencies in The Netherlands, Israel, and Morocco. His work is in public and private collections in Europe, the Mideast, and the United States.

Most of Sedestrom’s early work was in the form of three-dimensional objects. Now he works two-dimensionally. He refers to his work as drawing, creating small, playful results. He uses materials such as paper, string, cloth, wire, wax paper, cardboard, bubble wrap, and any produced image that is at hand. The drawings are originally large scale, and then cut down to size, bypassing the need to work within a given format.
