Karen Thuesen Massaro
Arts/Industry: Pottery, 1976, 1979, 1984
For Karen Massaro, the sensory experience of ceramics intertwines with the spatial arrangements and composition of multiple objects. She thinks of her work as poems for the eyes and hands.
Massaro’s awards include a Wisconsin State Arts Board grant, National Endowment for the Arts fellowship, and Santa Cruz County Artist of the Year award. She has exhibited her work at Perimeter Gallery, Chicago, Illinois; Pence Gallery, Davis, California; Beloit College, Wisconsin; and the Rochester Art Center, Minnesota. Massaro’s work is in the collections of Arizona State University; the Chazen Museum of Art, Madison, Wisconsin; Columbus Gallery of Art, Ohio; and the Mingei International Museum, Sacramento, California, among others.
Massaro received her MFA from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and her BS in art education from the State University at Buffalo State, New York.
