Javier Labrador

Javier Labrador was born in Minsk, Belarus, and soon moved to Cuba, where he became a prominent voice in the independent Cuban film arena. He received a Bachelor’s degree in film from the International Film School of San Antonio de los Baños in Cuba. Specialized in cinematography, Labrador has worked on several films as director of photography, as well as script writer, executive producer, and director, among other roles in the film industry. His work has been screened at many of the world’s top film festivals including Toronto, Camerimage, Rotterdam, and Berlin. After relocating to Miami in 2019, he won the Suncoast Regional Emmy Award as executive producer and cinematographer. Most of his work has been exhibited at the Miami Film Festival, and in the 2022 edition he was commissioned to direct a short film on the topic of family. Released in 2023, Road Work Ahead is his latest work produced between Miami and Cuba. He is currently developing his next feature film as producer and director.
