Alexandra Codina
Alexandra Codina is a documentary filmmaker whose work takes an intimate approach to storytelling, avoiding talking heads and politics, to focus on the human experience. Her directorial and producing debut, Monica & David, is the love story of two adults with Down syndrome. The film premiered on HBO, was nominated for an Emmy award, and won Tribeca Film Festival’s Jury Award for Best Documentary.
Her most recent documentary, Paper Children, is the story of four siblings who fled gang violence to seek safety in the US. The film premiered worldwide with YouTube Originals, was supported by Sundance Institute, Knight Foundation, Good Pitch, and Chicken & Egg Accelerator Lab. She is serving as consulting producer on River of Grass, a film about Florida’s water crisis and the imperiled and iconic Florida Everglades (directed by Sasha Wortzel).
Codina’s work has been featured on NPR’s All Things Considered, Newsweek, ABC.com, Univision’s Primer Impacto, Variety, The Huffington Post, CNN en Español, LATimes, Latina Magazine, etc. Ali is a member of Brown Girls Doc Mafia and International Documentary Association (IDA). The daughter of Cuban refugees, Alexandra grew up bilingual in Miami, where she currently lives with her two young boys.
