To celebrate the opening of Ashwini Bhat: Reverberating Self, the artist offers a guided walk-through of the gallery. The multimedia exhibition is Bhat’s first midcareer survey, including artworks made over the past decade alongside newly made work that has never been shown. The exhibition illustrates Bhat’s journey since moving to California—creating a new home and securing a sense of belonging through communion with her environment and art making.
As an immigrant from southern India, Bhat works to find a sense of belonging and self in her home in California. She does this through walking, hiking, and spending time with local ecologists. Like leading a walk along a trail in a forest, the artist will guide attendees along pathways in the gallery and speak about her artworks while posing questions and phrases to inspire reflection and connection.
Artist Walk-Through—Ashwini Bhat: Reverberating Self is supported by the Kohler Trust for Arts and Education, Ruth Foundation for the Arts, the Mellon Foundation, the Frederic Cornell Kohler Charitable Trust, Kohler Foundation, Inc., and the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts.
