John Kindness

John Kindness grew up in Belfast where there wasn’t much art around the city; however, there was the Ulster Museum, one of those great all-purpose museums where he learned to understand other cultures and civilizations through looking at their ‘stuff.’  This gave Kindness the desire to tell his own stories through the creation of artifacts that may or may not belong to another time. These things can come out in the form of intimate personal projects or large scale commissions, with the two sometimes meeting in the middle. Kindness benefited creatively from residencies done in New York, Philadelphia, and Rome, and found things in those cities that resonate with the art of the past.
