Kent Anderson

Kent Anderson found the factory to be a tremendous resource not only for materials but also for ideas. For the first few weeks, Kent learned some of the processes in both the Foundry and the Pottery but also wandered the factory looking at engine parts, factory molds, and the architecture. Much of the work he completed during his residency was the result of his investigations. In the Foundry, Kent altered Kohler Co. engine case molds and sent them through the production line to be poured by bemused employees. The work he created in the Pottery was influenced by his recent trip to Spain where he learned Catalan masonry techniques. He cast hundreds of small–shaped tiles which he then assembled into coils and catenary arches. Kent received his B.F.A. from Kent State University, Kent, Ohio, and his M.F.A. from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University in Alfred. He has done additional studies with the University of Colorado at Boulder and the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, Halifax. His work has been exhibited at the Fox Fine Art Center at the University of Texas, El Paso, and Pennsylvania State University, University Park.
