New York native Michael Beitz, received his BFA in sculpture from Alfred University, NY and his MFA from the University at Buffalo, NY. He has worked as a fine woodworker and furniture maker with Wendell Castle, and NYC furniture design firm BDDW, and has taught drawing and sculpture at the University at Buffalo, NY.
Michael’s work has been widely exhibited throughout the United States at such venues as the Buffalo Art Studio, NY; The Winslow Garage, CA; and the Nexus Gallery, PA. He has also held residencies at The Bemis Art Center, NE; The Roswell Artist in Residency Program, NM; and the McColl Center for Visual, NC.
Michael uses elements of sculpture, architecture and design in his current work to examine the relationship between domestic objects and our emotional states. Through his work he explores how “home” is both physically and conceptually constructed, addressing the inherent anxieties in the private spaces of our daily lives.
