Paula Dubaniewicz
Arts/Industry: Pottery, 1987
Paula Dubaniewicz calls her approach to the Arts/Industry residency “a continuation of the in-the-field experiences that form the technical structure of my creative process.” On the first shift, Paula worked during the peak hours of factory production and adjusted to the cycle of casting floor activities. The results of her two and one-half month residency were cast components for a sculpture garden installation. The finished work incorporated elements produced in her own studio (Cleveland, OH) and created a formal, interior gardenscape with benches, junipers, columns, and gates. The work, A Sculptural-Cultural Garden, was shown in the Cleveland Center for Contemporary Art in 1988. Paula received her B.F.A. from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 1978. She has been an artist-in-residence with the Ohio Arts Council; an instructor with the Interlochen Center for the Arts in Interlochen, Michigan; and an apprentice with the Moravian Tile Works in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. She has also served as juror and panel member for exhibitions and conferences. In 1984, she was awarded first place for sculpture in The May Show at the Cleveland Museum of Art. Her work is in the collections of the Great Northern Corporate Center, North Olmsted, OH, and Ohio Bell Ameritech Corporation, among others.
