David Franklin
Arts/Industry: Pottery, 2015, 2012
David Franklin’s first experience as a teenage artist was with a graffiti crew in Denver . He moved to the Northwest in the early nineties to learn real skills which could propel his career in the art world.
David served an informal apprenticeship to Duane Pasco, a successful regional artist, for a number of years. He gained firsthand experience not only in graphic design and sculptural skills, but in all levels of producing art on a large scale, from design to fabrication and installation. This mentoring relationship and Pasco’s example of a strong work ethic impelled Franklin’s artistic expression and resulted in a rewarding professional art career.
The subject matter of Franklin’s work continues to evolve; to creating work that is inspired by the place it is intended for and is reactive to the site and the community. He has taught at one of the country’s most prestigious carving schools in Indiana and worked in Colorado on a project for a Team Pain Skate Park. Franklin’s success at design team projects has led him to exciting projects that focus on his ability to architecturally integrate his work on a large scale. This path has allowed him to explore a wide variety of media and subjects.
