Karen Gunderson

Karen Gunderman was known in her early career for porcelain pottery. Gunderman’s later work, for which she is known internationally, includes mixed-media and acrylic paintings and multimedia sculptures.
She has participated in exhibitions internationally, including Forming from Nature, solo exhibition, Museu de Arte Nova, Aveiro, Portugal; American Clay, four-person exhibition, Museo de Cerámica de L’Alcora, L’Alcora, Spain; 5th Biennial Shanghai International Contemporary Ceramics Exhibition, Shanghai Museum of Arts and Crafts, Shanghai, China; ARTS/INDUSTRY: Collaboration and Revelation, John Michael Kohler Arts Center, Sheboygan, Wisconsin; and many more. Gunderman has also been awarded several prestigious grants and awards both as an artist and as an educator.
Gunderman earned a BFA from Syracuse University and an MFA from the University of Michigan. She was a professor of art at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee from 1978–2015.
