David R. Harper

David R. Harper received his BFA in sculpture from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax, Nova Scotia and his MFA in Fiber and Material Studies from the School of the Art Institute in Chicago. His work has been widely exhibited across Canada and The United States. An exhibition of Harper’s work titled “Entre le Chien et le Loupe” was organized by the University of Toronto in Partnership with the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery and the Kenderdine Art Gallery in 2012 and has been traveling to numerous galleries across Canada since. His work is held in numerous public collections including the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, the National Gallery of Canada, and the Frederick R. Weisman art Foundation in L.A. He currently lives and works between Sheboygan and Chicago.
Harper’s work combines themes of Natural History, the display, collecting and ritual to make installations and objects that reflect on how we look at the work through the things we make and the things we collect. He works with a wide range of materials including Fiber, ceramic, polymers, and hides. Harper is also known for his large scale hand embroideries.
