Olen Hsu

Olen Hsu creates vessels and sculptures in high-fired porcelain and stoneware. He first trained in ceramics under the mentorship of potter John Takehara for eight years in his hometown of Boise, Idaho.

Hsu is the recipient of grants and fellowships from the New York State Council on the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Dedalus Foundation, the AIM Program at The Bronx Museum of the Arts (NY), the Harvestworks Digital Media Arts Center Artist-in-Residence Program (NY), the Joan Mitchell Foundation, the John Michael Kohler Arts Center’s Arts/Industry Program at Kohler Co. (WI), and a Turbulence Commission from New Radio and Performing Arts, Inc. His work has been shown at The Bronx Museum of the Arts, the InterSpace New Media Arts Center (Bulgaria), James Nicholson Gallery (NY) Ampersand International Arts (CA), P.S. 122 Gallery (NY), Turbulence.org, The Philadelphia Art Alliance (PA), The Clay Studio (PA), Matin (CA), Beaux Arts Bath (UK), and Oxford Ceramics Gallery (UK), among others.

Olen received a BA in the history of art and architecture from Yale University, a BFA in ceramics and new media from Kansas City Art Institute, and an MFA in sculpture from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
