Jim Johnston

Jim Johnston was born in New York City. He studied architecture at the University of Virginia and graphic design at the School of Visual Arts, New York. His career as a professional artist spans more than twenty-five years and includes ceramics, wood and metal sculpture, product design, and painting. His work has been seen in such publications as W, Vogue and The New York Times, and he has exhibited throughout the United States, as well as in Europe, Japan, and Mexico.
Since moving to Mexico in 1997, he has worked as a painter, printmaker, teacher, writer, and architect. In 2006 and again in 2014, he published his first book, Mexico City: An Opinionated Guide for the Curious Traveler. He lives and works in Mexico City.
