Kevin Schmidt
Kevin Schmidt’s practice explores the role of the artist in contemporary, spectacle-driven society. He is particularly concerned with faith, mythmaking, craft, and popular culture. Schmidt holds a BFA from the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design. He received the Canada Council for the Arts’ 2017 Victor Martyn Lynch-Staunton Award in Visual Arts and a 2008 VIVA Award from the Jack and Doris Shadbolt Foundation for the Visual Arts. Schmidt’s recent solo exhibitions include the Vancouver Art Gallery; Kamloops Art Gallery, Kamloops, Canada; Contemporary Art Gallery, Vancouver; Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin; and Musée d’art Contemporain de Montréal.
