Heidi Krause is a registered somatic dance educator/movement therapist, freelance choreographer, certified movement analyst and producer. Formerly a soloist for Kanopy Dance Company, Krause has since been commissioned to choreograph, perform, and teach in Wisconsin and New York City. Prior to the pandemic, she was working full time co-producing short dance films and live showings of her choreography in the underground dance hub of NYC.

Krause has immersed herself in mainstream and underground dance and movement cultures across the globe, learning about the beautiful distinctions, inspirations, and influences of both traditional and contemporary styles of established and evolving dance and movement practices.

Krause studied under directors and artists of world-renowned companies such as Ohad Naharin and Batsheva dancers, Nederlands Dans Theatre alumni such as John Ole Olstrand; Andrea Miller and Gallim Dancers, Amit Lahav and Gekko Theatre performers; Manuel Vignoulle, Gregory Dolbashian, Kendra Portier, Brice Moussett and many more.

Before graduating from the Laban-Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies in NYC, Krause worked as an NCBTMB certified massage therapist and certified yoga trainer, which led her to develop and teach therapeutic creative movement exploration and community dance courses and workshops for the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Continuing Studies Division.

She went on to study cognitive behavioral therapy and somatic movement, incorporating helpful insights of both fields into workshops for organizations such as the Iris Kaplan Center in Manhattan, NYC. Krause has co-directed, performed, and collaborated choreographically with Urban Rhythms at Mark Morris, NYC. She was invited to serve as the representative of Wisconsin for Global Water Dances, Inc. Her self-produced film, Water Calls’ has been screened for Breakthrough Dance Company’s community showcase and community events.

Outside of her usual work, Krause enjoys painting, drawing, writing, and singing with The Krause Family Band. Her immediate family started the first therapeutic, intergenerational, interactive neighborhood in the United States, called Hope and a Future Here—she serves as a creative movement facilitator and director of cultural programming. Her passion for learning and connecting through the art of collaboration continues to fuel all of her independent productions.
