Maskull Lasserre was born in 1978. He holds a BFA in Visual Art and Philosophy from Mount Allison University, and an MFA in Sculpture from Concordia University.

Lasserre has exhibited internationally, including at the Museum of Art and Design in New York, and the Museum Villa Rot in Germany. He has held visiting artist positions with the Canadian Armed Forces, the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, and at the California College of Art. His work appears on Canadian coinage, and is represented in both private and public collections including those of the Montréal Museum of Fine Art, and the Government of Canada.

Lasserre’s drawings and sculptures explore the unexpected potential of the everyday, and its associated structures of authority, class, and value. Elements of nostalgia, allegory, humor, and the macabre are incorporated into works that induce strangeness in the familiar, and provoke uncertainty in the expected.
