Andrea Lekberg
Arts/Industry: Foundry, 2001
Andrea Lekberg is a multidisciplinary artist, chef, and citizen of the Oglala Lakota Oyate (from her mother’s side). She is interested in exploring personal and collective histories and how their interactions expand communities.
Formal training in painting from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and studying pastry at the Cooking and Hospitality Institute of Chicago led to
the opening of The Artist Baker in Morristown, New Jersey, in 2009. Lekberg has blended her knowledge as an artist, business skills, and exceptional pastry talents to create a cafe that serves as a hub for connecting different communities, organizations, and artists.
Lekberg has exhibited at the Sioux Indian Museum, Akta Lakota Museum, Heritage Center at Red Cloud Indian School, The Briton Museum, and The Museum of the Plains Indian.
In 2001, between pastry jobs, Lekberg was an Arts/Industry artist-in-residence at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center.
Her community projects include the Bake for Good campaign, which raised the equivalent of 16,500 meals for the food insecure. She has opened space within The Artist Baker to act as a launchpad for early career artists and business-owners, contributing to the growth of Morristown’s contemporary culture. In 2016, she was the recipient of the Morris Arts Creative Placemaking Award.
