Arts/Industry: Pottery, 2015
Liat Livni (b. 1979) is an Israeli Artist. Livni exhibits on a regular basis in Israel and abroad. She holds an MFA and BFA in Fine-Arts from the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem and has been an ‘Artist-in-residence’ in South Korea (Incheon), Germany (Hanover), Taiwan (Kuandu Museum and Taitung Museum), Japan (Mino) and New York (Omi). Most recently, her work was included in the collection of the Israel museum.
Livni is engaged in a constant search for making new, unique artworks that will reflect her own handwriting. Fascinated by the ability to”make art without using paint, by using natural colors”. She experiments with different techniques, media and materials, such as veneer, paper and sand in a process of ‘layering’ to achieve her desired effect. Her works come into being through sketching, pasting and cutting using a simple utility knife.
Livni makes use of ordinary things one may find in daily life, such as paper cups and plates, as she explores their intrinsic possibilities. Her themes explore local and cultural issues, while the images blur boundaries between nature and manmade.
