Susan Loftin
Arts/Industry: Foundry, 1988
Susan Loftin is intrigued by the way “…objects are designed for general use, what materials and techniques are involved, and how use of these objects have influenced our culture.” She employs a variety of media including, glass, clay, wood, wire, paper, brick, and tape. Her love of materials and the act of building is ever present in her work.
With over twenty solo and fifty group exhibitions, Loftin has solidified her craft into an engaging practice. Her work is in the collections of the High Museum of Art, Atlanta, Georgia;, MOCA-GA, Atlanta, the Mint Museum and the Asheville Art Museum, North Carolina; the Speed Art Museum, Kentucky; and various corporate and private collections. Loftin’s work has been featured in American Craft,, American Ceramics, Art Papers, and Artforum. She was awarded a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship and was an artist in residence at the Ministry of Culture, Paris, France; the John Michael Kohler Arts Center’s Arts/Industry residency, Kohler, Wisconsin; and the American Cultural Center, Damascus, Aleppo, Syria.
Loftin holds a BFA in crafts from the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia.
