Ka Oskar Ly

Ka Oskar Ly (they/she/nws/nwg) is a HMong artist and cultural producer connecting conversations through visual stories, textiles, installations, and gatherings. As an immigrant and child of refugees, their practice explores how culture is living and dynamic ancestral power that can manifest futures. Even without words for “art” and “queer” in the HMong language, there is undeniable existence.

Ka is a co-founder of Ua Si Creative, a Hmong women’s and genderqueer artists’ collective creating and playing in public and community space. Ka has been a fellow of Springboard for the Arts (20/20 Fellowship), the Intercultural Leadership Institute (ILI), the Center for Performance and Civic Practice, Forecast Public Art, the Jerome Foundation, the Camargo Foundation, and the McKnight Foundation.
