Michael M. Moore
Mike M. Moore is an artist who has chosen architecture as his primary medium, founding Tres Birds in 2000. Moore’s career formally began at the University of California at Berkeley where he studied both environmental biology and fine art. With a desire to merge both ecological systems science and modern design principles, he completed a master’s in architecture at the University of Colorado at Denver.
In his final semester of graduate school, Moore wrote a thesis paper referencing the early works of Swiss architect Peter Zumthor, who later won the Pritzker Prize in 2009 and the RIBA Royal Gold Medal in 2013. While researching Zumthor’s work, Moore traveled to Switzerland to conduct extensive interviews with Mr. Zumthor and visited all of his projects built prior to 2000. Topics explored throughout his thesis expand upon the connections between natural systems/human design, phenomenology/material expression, and reductionism, which he dedicates his work to today.
