Joel Moses has established a national reputation and market for his work in raku pottery. He received a MFA degree at Virginia Commonwealth University. Upon graduation, he was awarded a National Endowment for the Arts grant to participate in the Arts/Industry residency program. His work has been included in major museum and gallery shows, including the Museum of Contemporary Crafts in New York and the Cranbrook Academy of Art. A description of his techniques is featured in The Container Book by Thelma Newman (Crown Press). Joel’s approach to raku earned his participation in a major exhibition, Japan, and the West, at the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore, Maryland. His work is included in numerous private and corporate collections in the US and abroad.

Joel designs large architectural work as well as wheel-thrown raku pieces. He has installed sizable wall units in Richmond and New York. He has taught in several states and has also developed and managed studio complexes. Joel’s works have been described as architectonic, simultaneously curved and angular.
