Allan Packer

Allan Packer is known for his painted and shaped canvases that are often motorized in kinetic motion. He utilizes historical and scientific references, Hollywood popular culture, stagecraft, and the toy industry as a conceptual base in his approach to multimedium sculpture, painting, and installation.

His work has been exhibited at Phillip Bareiss Gallery (NM), MoMo (NM), Bryan Ohno Gallery (WA), Denver Art Museum (CO), Davidson Contemporary (WA), and ISCP (NY), among others. As master printer for Dorset Fine Arts (Canada), Packer produced prints for Kananginak, Pitseolak, and Pudlo Pudlat. Packer has received several awards including Canada Council grants, an Artist Trust Fellowship, an USA Artists Project Grant, and a 4 Culture Special Projects Grant, among others. He has participated in artist residencies, including the Pilchuck Glass School (WA), The International Studio and Curatorial Program (NY), the John Michael Kohler Arts Center’s Arts/Industry at Kohler Co. (WI), Banff Centre for the Arts (Canada), and The Wurlitzer Foundation (NM). Packer is represented in numerous public and private collections, including the Denver Art Museum (CO), Les Abbatoirs (France), John Michael Kohler Arts Center (WI), Wurlitzer Foundation (NM), and Denver Center for the Performing Arts (CO), among others.

Packer earned his BFA from University of Windsor, his MFA from University of Tennessee, and he studied with Stanley William Hayter at Atelier 17 in Paris.
