Angie Piehl
Arts/Industry: Pottery, 2019
Angie Piehl was born and raised in a town near Houston, TX. She moved to Stillwater, OK, to join the art department faculty at Oklahoma State University in 2007 (though she still considers herself a Texan). Piehl has a wonderful partner of twelve years, a daughter in grad school, and two goofy dogs. Her partner and daughter are Wisconsin gals, and Piehl has spent a lot of time visiting family and friends here over the last twelve years.
Piehl is mainly a 2-D artist who produces paintings, drawings, and collages. She is creating 3-D cast porcelain work at Kohler for the first time in her career. Piehl’s work addresses themes of gender and ecology. In her work, she densely layers natural and synthetic forms. Piehl asks viewers to question preconceived notions of nature and beauty.
