Lina Puerta utilizes a wide variety of materials in her sculpture— concrete, clay, resin, wood, foam, fabric, craft and recycled items; and artificial plants. With these materials she creates hybrid ecosystems of anatomical and botanical forms, drawing the connection between the human body and the natural world.

Puerta was born in New Jersey and raised in Colombia. She holds an MS in Art Education from Queens College of CUNY and has been recipient of several residencies and fellowships including: The 2015 John Michael Kohler Arts/Industry (WI), 2014-15 Lower East Side Printshop Keyholder, 2013-14 Smack Mellon, 2014 Materials for the Arts, 2013 Wave Hill Winter Workspace, 2010 Emerging Artist Fellowship from Socrates Sculpture Park and the 2009-10 Urban Artists Initiative NYC Grant. Exhibition venues include: Washington Project for the Arts, Washington DC; The Museum of Biblical Art, El Museo del Barrio, Lehman College Gallery, Socrates Sculpture Park, Wave Hill, NYC; Hampden Gallery at UMASS and Opalka Gallery at The Sage Colleges. Her work has been featured in several publications including Wilder Quarterly, Sculpture Magazine, The New York Times, Artnet News and Hyperallergic among others.
