John Rohlfing
Arts/Industry: Pottery, 1988
John Rohlfing makes vessels that explore the idea of containers as metaphors. Through these vessels he investigates utility and ritual, while expressing an interest in landscape, organic abstraction, Cubism, and Constructivism.
Rohlfing’s ceramic vessels have been shown both nationally and internationally. His work is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington DC; The Mint Museum of Art, South Carolina; and Racine Art Museum, Wisconsin, among others.
Rohlfing received his BA from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, and his MFA from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. He taught ceramics, photography, and drawing courses at Post University in Waterbury, Connecticut, and was chair of the Art Department. Rohlfing retired as professor emeritus in 2020.
