The intricate and surprising work created from found wood by Matthew Scheatzle is the result of a light hand and a belief in what his materials can become. As he says of his process, “cut it just so, chisel, sand, and suddenly and ridiculously, the debris has value.”

Scheatzle’s work has been exhibited at Richmond Art Center (CA), de Saisset Museum (CA), Snyder Museum (OR), Jackson St. Gallery (CA), MG Gallery (CA), Gallery 555 (CA), Bedford Gallery (CA), and the SFMOMA Artist Gallery, among others. He has received the Sustainable Arts Foundation grant, the NCECA Emerging Artist award, and the Jay DeFeo Artist grant, among others. Scheatzle received his BFA from Sonoma State University and his MFA from Mills College.
