Eric Tillinghast’s art-making practice is an exploration of the cultural identity of water, its historical dimensions, and our direct experience with it as a vital element. His artworks utilize water as both a subject and a medium, and take the form of site-specific installations, sculpture, and public art projects. Tillinghast’s works have been exhibited at Albright Knox Gallery (NY), Long Beach Museum of Art (CA), Galerie der Stadt Mainz Bruckenturm (Germany), New Mexico Museum of Art, Rocket (London), P.S (Netherlands), LaunchProjects (NM), and Center for Contemporary Non-Objective Art (Belgium).

Tillinghast has been awarded grants from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, the Land Rheinland-Phalz Kulturministerium, and Dallas Museum of Art. He has attended artist residencies at Listhus (Iceland), Arts/Industry at Kohler Co. (WI), Centre-Est-Nord-Est (Canada), and Santa Fe Art Institute (NM). His work is included in the collections of the Albright-Knox Gallery (NY), City of Cleveland Public Arts (OH), Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (AZ), Portland State University (OR), John Michael Kohler Art Center (WI), Port of San Diego (CA), New Mexico Museum of Art, and the Discovery Children’s Museum (NV). Tillinghast attended the Virginska Konst Skolan (Sweden) and earned his BFA from the College of Santa Fe.
