Marie Watt
Marie Watt’s interdisciplinary work draws from history, biography, Iroquois protofeminism, and Indigenous teachings to explore the intersection of history, community, and storytelling. She earned a BA in speech communications and art from Willamette University and an MFA in painting and printmaking from Yale University.
Her work has been exhibited at Denver Art Museum; Seattle Art Museum; Yale University Art Gallery; Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, DC; Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, Eugene, Oregon; Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Bentonville, Arkansas; and Whitney Museum of American Art, New York. She attended residencies at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture and the Vermont Studio Center; and received fellowships from Anonymous Was a Woman, the Joan Mitchell Foundation, the Harpo Foundation, and The Ford Family Foundation.
Watt is a member of the Seneca Nation of Indiana. She lives and works in Portland, Oregon.
