Xiaohong Zhang

Born in Hubei, China, Xiaohong Zhang received her MFA from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. Since graduation, she has been Assistant Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
Zhang’s work has been featured in the Museum of Wisconsin Art, Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, University of Wisconsin Madison’s Center for Design and Material Culture, and Beijing Normal University Gallery. She has received grants from the Global Business Resource Center for the US Department of Education International Program and a Southern Illinois University Permanent Collecting Award.
Zhang specializes in the ancient tradition of paper-cutting and the new media of digital art. Her work reflects on individual identity within the context of society and culture. In Arts/Industry Zhang applied her paper-cutting process to large three-dimensional clay sculptures and relief panels.
