During August 2021, CONTRA-TIEMPO Activist Dance Theater was in residence with Connecting Communities at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center.  Over the course of almost three weeks, artistic director Ana Maria Alvarez and company members Jannet Galdamez and Ruby Morales led classes and workshops for youth and seniors as well as for the general public. Ten choreographic labs were held outdoors in parks around Sheboygan. Community participants did story circles, shared movement, and created site-specific dance phrases around the idea of imagining an inclusive and welcoming future for the City of Sheboygan. Each gathering was filmed, and the footage has been edited into a short dance film, what if a city…, that premiered at the Arts Center on September 30. Over 50 community members participated in the project. Watch the film below.
