It is recommended to plan a minimum of one hour to tour each museum. One or both museums can be toured in one day.
Don’t forget to check out the award-winning, artist-designed washrooms, outdoor sculpture gardens, and the James Tellen Woodland Sculpture Garden (only 5 miles away in the town of Wilson).
During the summer months, visitors can also experience live outdoor concerts and July’s Midsummer Festival of the Arts.

Visit the Art Preserve of the John Michael Kohler Arts Center
Located a few miles west of the Arts Center, the new Art Preserve opened in 2021. This one-of-a-kind art museum focuses entirely on work from artist-built environments—spaces and places that have been significantly transformed by an artist. With over thirty-five art environments in one space, visitors can immerse themselves in entire worlds constructed by artists and glimpse thousands of pieces of art in visible, curated storage.
Visitors can enjoy a drink at the Fred Smith Bar, located in the lobby area. The bar offers cold and hot beverages, including the specially curated Fred Smith Lager.
Artist-designed washrooms enhance the overall experience.
