Midsummer Festival of the Arts
Thank you!
Thank you for being a part of the 54th Midsummer Festival of the Arts this past July 20–21, 2024. We appreciate the 10,000 attendees who made it to Sheboygan for a fantastic weekend connecting with artists, community, artists, and the Arts Center.
One hundred juried artist booths featured paintings, photographs, jewelry, wearables, wood carvings, ceramics, glass, leather goods, textiles, and more. Thank you to featured artist Jean Wells for her Under the Sea design for this year’s t-shirts and marketing for the festival.
Four emerging regional artists were invited to participate in this year’s Festival: Fernando Rico, Gabriela Marván, Amal Azzam, and Geornica Daniels. This Arts Center initiative makes arts festivals more accessible to emerging artists. Thank you to artist consultant Frank Juárez of Artdose Magazine for selecting these artists to be part of this experience and to the mentors returning this year, Nehemiah Edwards (Nemo), Sonia Vasquez, and Liala Amin. We were also thrilled to have RCS Empowers, Inc. return this year for the weekend and to feature a tent with Arts Center staff artists and their work.
Festival goers also experienced free art making and workshops inspired by the Arts Center’s Work in Progress theme. Inspired by Arts/Industry alumnus artist David Franklin, people poured plaster mold fish and created mixed media clay landscapes outside under the activities tent in the Festival Green. Inside the Arts Center, a Foundry in a Box workshop was held in the STUDIO for those you wanted to try casting in tin. In the Workplace gallery, attendees joined Justin Favela, Arts/Industry alumnus, in creating a large-scale installation resembling nachos using cartonería techniques, a traditional Mexican method of building structures with paper-mâché.
Entertainment included four Levitt AMP Sheboygan Music Series concerts and strolling performers, including stilt walker Jess Clark and aerial performances with Warped Dance Company. The festival was complimented with the Arts Center galleries, a food court area featuring several food trucks and a beverage tent, and other happenings held throughout the weekend, including an Art Patron Breakfast.
All of this could not have happened without our presenting sponsors Acuity and Lake 98.1, and supporting sponsors Grandstay Residential Suites, Bank First, City of Sheboygan, Meijer, Blue Harbor Resort, 3 Sheeps Brewing Company, and Curt G. Joa, Inc. Additional support provided by Encore Luxury Apartments.
Please mark your calendars and make plans to attend next year’s Midsummer Festival of the Arts, July 19-20, 2025.

Plaster Mold Making and Clay Play (Festival Green activity tent)
Engage your creativity in some hands-on fun.
Clay Play Landscapes (Festival Green activity tent)
Drawing inspiration from the Arts/Industry artists in the Work in Progress exhibitions series, create a mixed-media clay landscape. Use colored sand, stones, and natural materials to embellish your one-of-a-kind creation! This project is suitable for all ages.
Plaster Mold Making (Festival Green activity tent)
Inspired by Arts/Industry artist David Franklin, select a silicone fish mold and pour your own plaster fish! Use watercolor paints to enhance your plaster fish details. This project is suitable for all ages.
Foundry in a Box (Social STUDIO inside the Arts Center)
Try your hand at casting with tin in the Foundry in a Box workshop.
Work with Artist Justin Favela (Workplace gallery inside the Arts Center)
Join Justin Favela, an alumnus of the Arts/Industry residency at Kohler Co. factory, in creating a large-scale installation resembling nachos. We will be working on larger-than-life toppings such as tomatoes, cheese, jalapenos, chips, and more created using cartonería techniques. Cartonería is a traditional Mexican technique of building structures with paper-mâché.
Be sure to include the exhibitions inside the Arts Center in your Festival experience. We invite you to connect with community, artists, and the world around us through the current Arts Center theme, Work in Progress. Celebrating 50 years of the Arts/Industry residency program, the exhibitions honor and examine the impact the program has had on hundreds of artists and countless Kohler Co. associates, as well as the value artists bring to industrial environments.
Exhibitions include:Mad Dash: 50 Years of Arts/Industry, Clocking In: 2024 Arts/Industry Residents, Workplace, No Grout, Knock First, Lunch Break: Arts/Industry in Between, Willie Cole: Home Asembly, and Water-Sprouts and Remains (an unfolding).
