Imagine a world where your weekly, monthly, or yearly dance appointment is a legitimate need. That is the world of Tend.
“… I left with a notably peaceful nervous system and overall sense of wellbeing.” —Sharon Hoyer, Newcity Stage
Matched with a dancer/technician for an hour-long appointment, this interactive performance envelopes the guest in a highly structured choreographic journey designed to respond to interests and needs that emerge on the day of the visit. Weaving together consensual touch, conversation, music, and movement, Tend offers a much-needed opportunity to rest, recharge, reflect, and foster connection.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The first step in booking an appointment is to fill out an audience interest form. The director of Tend will match you with a performer/technician who would be a good fit for you and send you their appointment schedule along with the link to purchase your ticket.
You will be booking an hour-long appointment for yourself with one performer as a primary host who will offer dance performance, conversation, and touch. Your primary host will work in collaboration with another technician in the space to co-create the experience. You can come alone if you prefer, or bring one friend, who will have a vicarious experience of the show (dance and talk, but not touch). The friend ticket is complimentary with the client ticket. Each appointment will overlap with other people’s appointments, offering both client and friend additional layers of vicarious experience.
The installation elements of the piece, including photography and video, are viewable any time the Arts Center is open.
Gallery hours for installation viewing are:
Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday: 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
Thursday: 10:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday: 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
