Workplace: Risa Puno + Arlo Howard
November 9–23, 2024
Working at the intersection of art and play, Risa Puno (Foundry, 2018) and Arlo Howard will collaborate in the Workplace exhibition to create interactive experiences that challenge our relationships with failure.
Puno’s work, rooted in sculpture and installation, uses play and physical interaction to deepen our understanding of how we connect with one another. Howard, whose background lies in immersive theater and games, incorporates additional layers of engagement through narrative-driven storytelling.
Together, they invite participants to engage in playful, hands-on activities that reframe failure as a natural and essential part of learning and growth. Visitors are encouraged to reflect on their own encounters with failure and connect with the experiences of others, fostering a collective exploration of resilience, creativity, and self-discovery.
Visitors can explore these themes through various interactive exercises that evolve over time and are shaped by contributions from the participants Puno and Howard will be present in the gallery to guide these activities and engage with visitors directly.
Workplace is supported by the Kohler Trust for Arts and Education, the Mellon Foundation, Ruth Foundation for the Arts, the Frederic Cornell Kohler Charitable Trust, Kohler Foundation, Inc., Acuity, and the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts.
